Measurement Converter

I still don’t have every conversion memorized, even after years of cooking. Tablespoons to cups I know cold. Fluid ounces to quarts, not so much. Rather than keep a chart taped inside a cabinet door like my mom used to, I built this so I can just type in a number and get an answer.

1 cup = 236.59 ml

How to use it

Type in the amount you have, choose the unit you’re converting from, then pick the unit you want it converted to. The answer updates as soon as you change anything, so there’s no button to click and no page to reload.

Conversions I look up the most

A cup holds 16 tablespoons, and a tablespoon holds 3 teaspoons. A cup is also 8 fluid ounces, a pint is 2 cups, a quart is 4 cups, and a gallon is 4 quarts. Those five numbers cover most of what comes up in a normal week of cooking.

One thing this tool won’t do

This converts volume measurements like cups, tablespoons, and milliliters. It won’t convert cups of flour into grams, because that depends entirely on the ingredient. A cup of flour, a cup of sugar, and a cup of butter all weigh different amounts, since they pack differently. If you bake often and want exact weights, a kitchen scale is worth the twenty dollars, and I may build an ingredient specific weight converter down the line.
